Trichomoniasis in Birds

Greenfinches, Chaffinches & Goldfinches along with other finch species are the birds that are affected by this parasite.

What is it?

Trichomoniasis is caused by a protozoan parasite.

How can you tell?

Fluffed up feathers, slow to fly away, shows difficulty with swallowing, bits of food & saliva stuck around the bill.

Found a bird?

If you have found a bird & suspect that it is suffering with Trichomoniasis, before handling, contact your local vet or wildlife rehabilitators doe advice.

If you do handle the bird, wear gloves & wash hand thoroughly afterwards.

Is there a prevention?

Best thing to do is remove feeders and water supply, disinfect, allow to air dry.
