Let’s talk about parasites!

Today is lice. . . . . aren’t we lucky.

Lice are ectoparasites, this means they live outside of their host.

Believe it or not, there are two categories of lice:

  • Bloodsucking (order Anoplura) . . . . . . . . . . reliving the Twilight era.
  • Chewing (Trichodectes canis) .. . . . . . . . Zombie apocalypse vibe.

Lice characteristics:

  • Wingless
  • Flattened body
  • 1-8mm long
  • Pale, transparent appearance.

Jokes aside, they aren’t as scary as they sound.

Treatment for these little guys is quite simple.

Step 1, How do you know?

  • Constant itching
  • Skin irritation
  • Simply do a thorough examination, part the hair. You will spot white dots stuck on the fur close to the skin.

Step 2, Treatment?

  • Frequent spot-on treatment.
  • Frequent hot wash off all bedding, accessories & toys
  • Discuss with your local veterinary clinic about the correct treatment suitable for your pet.
